How Do You Check the Size and Set Contents When Buying a Duvet Cover?
For a duvet cover with a pattern you love to feel just right at home too, its sizes and pack contents need to match your needs. A few checks before you shop are all it takes.
A new duvet cover can easily change the feel of a bedroom. Sometimes a calm colour, sometimes a pattern you love makes the whole room feel warmer. But just as important as looking good is that it fits your duvet, your bed and your pillows.
Measure your duvet for the duvet cover
A duvet cover is the case for your duvet. That is why, when choosing a duvet cover size, you shouldn’t look only at the width of your bed; check the width and length of your duvet.
For example, if your duvet is 200 × 220 cm, compare this with the duvet cover size in the product description. Go by the numerical measurements rather than general terms such as “double”.
Know your mattress height for the sheet, too
When buying a fitted sheet, the height of the mattress matters as well as its width and length. The mattress height the product is suitable for may be stated in its description or on its packaging.
If you use a thick mattress topper on your mattress, take the total height into account. Otherwise the sheet may slip off at the corners or may not grip the mattress well enough.
With a flat sheet, think about how much extra you want left over at the edges.
Don’t make your decision based on the words “set” or “bundle”
Not every duvet cover pack contains the same pieces. Some products include a sheet, while others contain only a duvet cover and pillowcases.
Before you buy, check the following information one by one:
- The number and size of duvet covers.
- Whether a sheet is included.
- If there is a sheet, whether it is flat or fitted.
- The number and sizes of pillowcases.
- Whether the decorative pieces in the photo are included in the pack.

Compare the size of the pillowcases with your existing pillows. The plump look in the image may not come out the same way with your pillow.
